that students and teachers from sandy hook elementary will not actually be going back to school until january, after winter break. there were also funerals today for two more 6 year olds. jessica rekos and james mattioli. we'll have more on those memorials later on in our show. first, we wanted to bring you the very latest that we know about the investigation. our national correspondent susan candiotti has new details. she is outside the lanza home tonight. susan, what can you tell us, the very latest that you have been able to figure out about why this happened? >> reporter: well, i'll tell you, if the shooter in this case was trying to erase his digital footprint, he may have succeeded. because investigators are telling us that that smashed computer that you referred to was so badly damaged, presumably by the shooter himself, that they are having a hard time retrieving data from the hard drive. but they're not giving up. they're still working on it because they want to try to examine it for any e-mails he might have sent, for any writings he left behind, to learn about any websites that he

at sandy hook elementary. however, the uneasy tensions that many are feeling as a result of sandy hook may have contributed to the authorities being tipped off by the students. >> it may have helped, because there is a heightened awareness and sensitivity to it. >> reporter: back out live here, authorities say they have been in communication with this teen's parents. those parents, according to authorities, said that they did believe that their son actually had access to some weapons therefore making this threat that much more credible, guys. but no weapons, according to police, ever made it here on campus. so that's certainly some good news here. what is still a mystery tonight is what could have caused this teen to plan out such an attack. we'll find out in the days to come. ken molestina, 9 news. >>> now to the latest on the tragedy in newtown. today, the town buried two more little children. the first funeral was for 6 year-old james who was remembered for his love of sports and math. jessica loved horses and has been hoping for cowgirl boots and a hat for christmas. third grader luke

to school today of course with the exception of sandy hook elementary. the students of sandy hook will go back to school after the holidays in a different building some eight miles away, with 20 bright young faces missing from the halls and classrooms. everything is different now. the children of this town are facing a new reality, doing things they never should have to do at this young age. like writing good-bye letters to their friends. we told you last night about 6-year-old jack pinto who was buried yesterday. at the funeral, a note from his friend john reads, jack, you are my best friend. we had fun together. i will miss you. i will talk to you in my prayers. i love you, jack. love, john." there were two more funerals for two more 6-year-old children. jessica rekos and james mattioli were laid to rest today. we will remember them and tonight we honor them. our hearts and thoughts are with their families and their friends. and we wish peace and strength for all the people whose lives jessica and james touched in just six short years. james mattioli was known as jay. just 6 years old,

in newtown, connecticut. first graders from sandy hook elementary gathered to bury two more of their classmates here. on the other side of this, students from other schools here back to school today for the first time since the tragedy. very rough as one high schooler told us, there will be no joy in school for quite some time. we talked to parents dropping off their kids. there were tears and very apprehensive. but they knew this was something they needed to do. one parent said, look, i feel okay about my kid, i know that the teachers here are going to do the best they can because the teachers who did at sandy hook elementary, of course referring to the women there to tried to defend their students. one of those victoria soto will be laid to rest tomorrow. but again, people here starting to talk about healing. starting to talk about normalcy of some sort. but really, what can be normal when you continue to talk about burying six and seven-year-old kids. there is nothing that fits the norm when you discuss that. >> i hear you jay, when you have the baby angels and the teache
